Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. Legal Aid NSW legal services include legal advice, help at court and family dispute resolution. Legal Aid NSW can help in most areas of criminal law, family law and civil law.
Legal Aid NSW also provides one-off free legal advice to people about a range of legal issues. Legal Aid NSW will also tell you whether you may be eligible for further assistance or a grant of legal aid for a lawyer to represent you in your case. Legal Aid NSW might be able to provide help with simple documents if you do not have a lawyer. Legal Aid NSW will not be able to help you with complex legal documents.
The advice session is generally about 15 to 20 minutes. This amount of time does not allow our lawyers to give you detailed legal advice about complex matters. If Legal Aid NSW is not able to help you further they may be able to give you information about where you can go for more help.
Legal Aid NSW clients are from the most financially and economically disadvantaged parts of our community. Many clients of Legal Aid NSW experience disadvantage due to language or literacy barriers, illness, disability or geographic isolation. A high number are on Commonwealth benefits.
